Why?
Simply put, the Gospel! Jesus set the example of sacrifice to make all welcome. We serve because we’ve been served well; love because we’ve been loved well; We do both in order to move people towards a relationship with Christ.
Colossians 4:5-6 says, “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”

Who?
Who do we consider a guest? Everyone! Everyone who walks through the doors for a weekend service needs to feel welcome and wanted. A “regular” needs to feel at home at Ten Mile Baptist Church, just like we want our own home to feel like a good, safe place to walk into each day. People new to Ten Mile Baptist Church, and especially first-time guests, absolutely must feel welcome the first time. They came because God was at work in their life, and we want to do everything we can to help them keep moving toward what He is doing!
- A typical first-time guest will decide whether or not to come back again within the first ten minutes.
- In growing churches, there is a 16% chance a first-time guest will come back for a second visit, but an 85% chance a second time guest will come back a third time or more!
What?
First, pray! Pray for you to be just what someone needs that morning as they enter. Prayer is powerful! Practically speaking, how do you make people feel welcome? Smile, greet the people as they come in (Good morning, welcome, we’re glad you’re here). You may offer a handshake & a bulletin, but don’t force it on people. If you don’t recognize someone, don’t say, “Who are you?” or “Is this your first time here?” Instead say, “Hi, I’m _____. I don’t think I’ve met you. How long have you been coming to Ten Mile? If you find out they are a first-time guest, one greeter accompany them to the Welcome Center for their gift (It will be staffed with a volunteer who will get their info, give them a guest bag, & help them from there). It is important as a greeter to avoid distractions. Don’t get so tied up in conversations with friends that you neglect people coming in. Also, be on the lookout for people who may need help (elderly, handicapped, moms with babies) moving from car to the door. Help them!
When?
You will be assigned an entrance, either MAIN, SOUTH, or FELLOWSHIP CENTER.

- If you welcome those entering for morning Bible Study, be in place by 9:15 am.
- If you welcome those entering for morning worship, be in place by 7:45am and 10:15 am.
- If you serve for morning worship, quietly move back to your place during the end of service so you can say, “Have a great day!” as people exit.
