What Legacy Will We Leave?

Oct 4, 2026  •  Pastor Jacob Gray

What kind of legacy are we leaving behind? That is the piercing question at the heart of this message drawn from 2 Kings and 2 Chronicles 33. We walk through the life of Manasseh, one of the most wicked kings in Israel's history, who sacrificed his own children, filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and placed idols in the very temple of God. And yet, the story does not end there. When God allowed Manasseh to be dragged into captivity in chains, stripped of everything, it was in that pit of absolute brokenness that he remembered the God of his father Hezekiah. The spiritual lesson is staggering: what one generation allows, the next generation embraces, and what the next generation embraces, the generation that follows celebrates. The pride and spiritual drift of a parent does not stay contained to one lifetime. It ripples outward. But so does faithfulness. Even an imperfect faith, spoken honestly and consistently to our children and grandchildren, can be the very thing they remember when their world collapses around them. We may not see the fruit of our testimony in our own lifetime, but that does not mean the seed has not taken root.
