Spiritual growth requires a choice Pt. 2

Jun 7, 2026    Pastor Jacob Gray

This powerful exploration of Hebrews 6:1-3 challenges us to examine the authenticity and depth of our faith journey. The central message confronts a sobering reality: spiritual growth isn't optional for genuine believers—it's inevitable. Like an apple tree that naturally produces apples when healthy, a true follower of Christ will bear spiritual fruit as evidence of their salvation. The passage walks us through the foundation of faith—repentance from dead works, faith toward God, baptism, laying on of hands, resurrection, and eternal judgment—while emphasizing that these are starting points, not the entirety of our spiritual house. The most compelling aspect is the call to honest self-evaluation: can we point to tangible evidence of the Holy Spirit's work in our lives? Are we producing the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? This isn't about earning salvation through works, but recognizing that genuine salvation transforms us from the inside out. The message offers both warning and hope—if we find ourselves spiritually barren, we're invited to examine whether we truly know Christ or whether we've been hindering His work through unrepentant sin. The good news is that today, right now, we can respond to the Holy Spirit's conviction and experience the life-changing power of authentic faith.
