Limiting Missed Opportunities

Apr 26, 2026    Pastor Jacob Gray

This powerful message from 2 Kings 13 confronts us with a sobering reality: our lives are filled with missed opportunities that we often don't recognize until they've passed. The story of King Joash and the prophet Elisha reveals how easily we can settle for partial blessings when God intends to give us complete victory. When Elisha instructed Joash to strike the ground with arrows, the king stopped at three strikes—and in doing so, limited what God wanted to accomplish through him. The prophet's anger wasn't about disobedience to a specific command, but about the king's lack of faith to believe God could do exceedingly abundantly more. We face this same challenge in our everyday moments—those ordinary experiences we dismiss as insignificant. Yet Scripture reveals that God works powerfully in the mundane: scrubbing toilets, grocery shopping, commuting to work. The question becomes: are we allowing God to redeem every moment for His glory, or are we compartmentalizing our faith? Jeremiah 5:25 delivers a striking warning that our iniquities can actually turn away blessings that God has already sent our way. Our sins don't just delay blessings—they redirect them. This should cause us to examine our hearts and ask what hidden rebellion might be robbing us of what God wants to do in and through us.
