Keeping the main thing, the main thing

What does it really mean to keep the main thing the main thing in our faith? Drawing from Hebrews chapter 8, we explore a passage where the writer essentially stops us mid-drift and says, pay attention, this is the point. The central truth is that Jesus, having completed the work of redemption, is now seated at the right hand of the Father. He is not standing because the work is finished. That single image carries enormous weight for how we understand our relationship with God. We are not fighting for victory, we are fighting from it. We do not serve God to earn His love or to balance the scales of our past. The sacrifice has been made once for all, and we have been, as Hebrews 10 declares, perfected forever in the eyes of God. That does not mean we are without fault in our daily lives, but it means God sees us through the lens of who He is making us to be. He is not looking at our worst moments and wondering if we will ever change. He already knows the finished work He is doing in us. For anyone who has come to faith carrying shame, failure, or a painful past, this truth is nothing short of liberating. God has not written us off. He is not surprised by our struggles. He is actively working, and He will not stop.
