God Does
This powerful message from 2 Kings 4 challenges us to shift our perspective from 'God did' and 'God will' to 'God does'—recognizing that our unchanging God works miracles in both the extraordinary and ordinary moments of our lives. Through two miracles performed by Elisha, we discover that God doesn't only show up in desperate circumstances; He often works preventatively, protecting and providing before we even recognize the danger. The first miracle involves poisoned stew that could have killed many prophets during a famine, yet God used simple flour to neutralize the poison. The second miracle shows God multiplying twenty loaves of bread to feed one hundred men with leftovers. What's striking is that both miracles required ordinary people offering ordinary things—flour and bread—for God to accomplish the extraordinary. This speaks directly to our tendency to wait for grand moments to serve God while overlooking the everyday opportunities right in front of us. Whether it's greeting someone at church, working in the nursery, encouraging a struggling coworker, or showing patience with our children during chaotic mornings, these seemingly insignificant moments become the soil where God plants miraculous results. The message calls us to maintain a prayer journal to remember God's faithfulness, to believe that God knows what we need before we ask, and to trust that when we sow sparingly we reap sparingly, but when we sow bountifully—in joy, kindness, peace, and service—we reap abundantly. We're reminded that little is much when God is in it, and our ordinary obedience becomes the canvas for God's extraordinary work.
